Radek's North Shore Ripper Run
June 6, 2007Published by radekLast week all the boys in North Van put on another awesome North Shore Ripper. It was the first one that I attended and was super stoked at the turn out, the fun times, and just being in the company of people that truly love this sport. Here is a little write up and video about the event, the awesome trail, and the stunts that you can hit to get time bonuses. Also check out Cam's write up on NSMB.
Here is the video:b>radek-helmet-cam-ripper-video.mov/b> (There are some funny outtakes at the end of the video) How did my race run go you ask? Check the results at the bottom of the page here. My overall time was pretty bad, but then again I was not satisfied with a 10 minute race course that included 2 trails and I tried adding a third trail in, until some one told me I took a wrong turn somewhere and had to push my bike up to find the finish line. I totally thought that the XXX sign on the trail means, you're almost there....booze ahead. Well take a look and you'll see where I went wrong. Luckily Pinkbike/Devinci team rider Geoff Pendrel squeaked in to take first place. Aloha! I tried hitting all the stunts on the way down and it did pay off by getting a 2 minute and 12 second time bonus. Whenever I ride a trail, I always try to ride all the little stunts that people often forget about, even if they are old and washed....like me. I think the only stunt I missed was the first double jump, and that was intentionally, as the day before I pinned it off the second jump, and ate shit so hard, I squealed like a pig for 5 minutes. Good times are always worth the pain. In the end, this was another one of these wonderful days that reminds you how dedicated and passionate all the riders and people in the industry are. Big Thanks! I can't wait until the next ripper. But I'm only coming if a "no banana hammock" policy is instated! |

I have never experienced the Ripper first hand, but I was there on Friday while folks were practicing and James, Cam and crew were setting up and the vibe then was already full of goodness. From reading the story and watching the video, all I have to say is-get out and support events like Rippers and Redneck Rumbles as they are SO MUCH fun and that much positive energy is simply great to be around!. Keep up the good work folks! PS-Kenneth put some clothes on!
that was a great helmet cam video. looks fun and challenging.

I thought it was funny that your camera sorta fogged up from your labored breathing, not bad for a desk boy. Lay down the Guitar Hero!!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm nothing like a guy in a speedo on a bike..
Hey Radek I was fairly impressed with your riding skills on that video! What strikes me as funny though is the fact that you could actually last that long at any physical activity... because as I recall you certainly didn't have that kind of stamina when we were together!
